Q: I am getting 'Please Select Data Directory' when launching Millennium.

A: Launching Millennium from a workstation causes a window to open asking to Select Data Directory. Scroll to the bottom of this window and look for 'My Network Places', click on the little + sign to the left so that it expands the selection. An option for 'Entire Network' should appear, click on the little + sign to the left of it so that it expands this selection. An option for 'Microsoft Windows Network' should appear, click on the little + sign to the left of it so that it expands this selection. Now we should see a workgroup name (I.E. Harms, MSHome, Workgroup), click on the little + sign to the left of it so that it expands this selection. Now we should see all the computers on the network (I.E. Server, Station1, Station2). Click on the little + sign to the left of the Server (Database location) and the share for the Millennium Database should be seen. Locate the Millennium database folder and click to highlight it. Now click on the OK button. Follow these same steps if it asks to select the reports folder.

Q: 'When adding an employee, the Save button is not activated'.

A: The save button will not be activated until you type something in the CODE field. The CODE field represents how the employees name will show when in the Appointment Book or running reports. It is suggested to make their CODE name the same as their first name.

Q: Running a report is generating an 'Active X Control...Invalid Directory' error message.

A: This happens because the wrong reports folder is selected so it can not find the specified report. Go to Data->Business Information, This Computer, File Locations, click the button to the right of "Millennium Reports" and change the report directory to match the same folder as the "Millennium Data", but then choose the Reports folder underneath. (i.e. "Millennium Data" reads C:\Program Files\Harms\Millennium 2005\ then you will need to change "Millennium Reports" to C:\Program Files\Harms\Millennium 2005\Reports.)

Q: When launching Millennium, the window minimizes to the taskbar and nothing happens.

A: This happens because Flash needs to be installed. If you are on the Server, go to C:\Program Files\Harms\Millennium 2005\Install Sets\Flash and double click on Flash Player.exe. If you are on a Workstation, go to C:\Program Files\Harms\Millennium Workstation\Install Sets\Flash\ and double click on Flash Player.exe.

Q: When installing Millennium 2005, receiving an error whsc30.dll failed to register 1904.

A: When installing Millennium 2005, make sure that you are logged on to that computer as an Administrator. If you are logged in as an Administrator and you are still receiving this error, click ignore and finish the installation. Once the installation is complete, click on this link http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=C943C0DD-CEEC-4088-9753-86F052EC8450&displaylang=en and download then install the Microsoft SOAP Toolkit 3.0. This file needs to be installed in order to automatically check our update site for our latest updates posted.

Q: When running my end of day reports, some transactions I've entered on the other computer or not showing up on this computer?

A: This is a caching issue between the two computers, a network lag as some would say. Make sure the Millennium program is on the latest update. Check this by clicking the Help menu from within Millennium and choosing Program Date. This date should be within a month or two from today's date. Make sure the Appointment book screen has been closed as well as the register screen. Check this by choosing the Window Menu from within Millennium, this will show any windows that are still open in Millennium. Sometimes exiting Millennium on all pc's except the computer you wish to run the report on helps. In some cases, a reboot of the pc was necessary or running the reports with a time range of an hour before the store was opened and an hour after the store closed.

Q: How do I backup my database?

A: There are many programs out there that will do the job very well. Backup software prices range from $500 to free. Of course you get what you pay for with the amount of features that are included but the only thing it needs to do is backup the database every single time. The only intervention a user should experience is changing the tapes, cd or a verification procedure making sure the backups are successful. Millennium 2005 comes with Millennium.Backup. Millennium.Backup can be scheduled to run at any time and will backup to any location specified. Please refer to the http://www.harms-software.com/support/knowledge/2005/backup.asp website link for more information on how to setup this backup program. The backup created can be sent to many mediums, CD, external hard drive, zip drives, etc.

Q: My server crashed and I need to restore my backup and I don't know how to do this?

A: Millennium will need to be installed again on any machine, whether it's a new server to replace the old server that crashed or just using a temporary front desk workstation for example. Millennium can be installed by using the original installation cd. Install Millennium and it will create a directory structure of C:\program files\harms\Millennium 2005 (By default). This folder 'Millennium 2005' will be replaced by your backup. Paste the backup on top of this folder and say yes to replace all the files. In some cases after copying the file an update workstation needed to be performed because errors were being generated upon entering Millennium. In the Millennium 2005 database folder there is a file called updateworkstation.exe. Double click on it and follow the prompts. Try launching Millennium again.

Q: How do I apply an update to Millennium?

A: We ship out updates to the Millennium program to all our users who are currently enrolled in a support contract at least once a year. However we release updates monthly and these updates are available online at update.harms-software.com. Another way to get to the site quickly is from the Navigator, under the Help section there is a link that says Millennium Update Site, click the link and it'll open the login page. A user ID number and password is required in order to access the site. Call our support department at 973-402-8801 to retrieve this information. Once the information is retrieve log into the site and download the Millennium 2005 update. Be sure to save the file in a place that will be easy to get to (desktop for example). All computers MUST be exited out of Millennium in order to run the update. Double click on the downloaded file and follow the on screen instructions.

Q: How do I register for the Harms Community Site?

A: Go to http://harms-software.infopop.cc/6/ubb.x or you can quickly get to the from the Navigator, under the Help section there is a link that says Community Site. Once you are on that website, choose the option, I am not registered on: Harms Software Community Summary then click Continue. Fill out all the information that is required which has the * symbol on that field. You will need to know your Client Q number which should be on your Invoice. If you can not find it, please call 973-402-9500 and ask what your Client Q number is. Once you fill out all the information, an email will be sent to you letting you know that your registration has been approved which then you can log on to the Community Site.

Q: I just installed Millennium 2005 and it is asking me to 'Please register your system AND workstations with Harms Software.'

A: If you have internet access, you can use our Automated Online Registration feature. Click OK to that window then click Continue to the Open/Close window and go to File->Registration on the top left of your screen. Enter in your name and Customer Q Number which should be on your Invoice. If you can not find it, please call 973-402-9500 and ask what your Client Q number is. Once you put in your name and Customer Q Number, then click on the Register Online 24 Hours a Day button. Once completed you will see how many workstation licenses you have to the right. If that number seems to be incorrect, please contact us at 973-402-9500 so we can correct the problem. If you do not have internet access, just call 973-402-9500 and ask to register your Millennium.

Q: How do I run a File Fix?

A: A File Fix should be run at least once a month to repack and re-index your database files. In order to run this utility, everyone (including the Server) must be out of Millennium. Then go to your Server and click Start -> All Programs/Programs -> Harms Software -> File Fix 2005 - Data Repair. Click on the Start File Fix button on the bottom and it will ask you to back up. It is recommended that you click Yes to this to back up your database before running the File Fix. After the backup is complete, you will receive a message stating to click ignore if you receive any errors. Once you click OK to that, it will run through the File Fix. You shouldn't receive any errors on any files, however if you do, leave it at that screen and please contact Harms Tech Support at 973-402-8801. Once the File Fix is complete, click Exit on the bottom, and then click OK to the information box stating that you should be backing up. Another box will pop up asking you to run a List Fix, it is recommended that you click Yes to this to re-index your clients database. You will see a flash which means the List Fix has been run. Now you can access Millennium again on all of your computers.

Q: What is filefix? When and how often should I run it?

A: Filefix is a database maintenance tool that verifies that all files are in working order, packs and re-index the files and deletes any records that are marked for deletion.

Q: How can I create a Training Version in order to train any new employees I hire in the future?

A: If you are on your Server, go to the Harms folder which by default is located in C:\Program Files\Harms\, Right click on the Millennium 2005 Folder, left click Copy, then go into My Computer, Right click on the C:\ Drive and left click Paste. If you are on a Workstation, you need to copy the Millennium 2005 folder from your Server. Go through My Network Places, double click on your Server computer, Right Click on the Millennium 2005 folder, then click Copy. Go into My Computer, Right click on the C:\ Drive and left click Paste. Once the Millennium 2005 Folder is on your C:\ Drive, Right Click on the Millennium 2005 Folder and click Rename. Rename the Millennium 2005 folder to "MillTest". Then double click on the MillTest folder, find the Millennium.exe file, Right Click on it, go to Send To, then click Desktop. There should now be an icon on your desktop that says Shortcut to Millennium.exe. It is recommended that you Right Click on that shortcut, click Rename and call it "Training Version". Once completed, you now have a Test version that you can use to train on.

Q: How do I check to see if I am on the latest Millennium 2005 Update?

A: To check what update you are on right now, click the word Help on the top of Millennium, then click Program Date. Look at what it says for Date. (i.e. Size:31,494,510 Date: June 03, 2005 Time: 13:44:08). Now if you have security enabled, you can go to Management->User Logins, find your User Login, then click on the User Options tab and mark a check in "Check Harms Update Site for Millennium Updates." If this is checked, as soon as you log in, Millennium will let you know automatically if there is a new update posted. You can also go to our update site and see when the latest update was posted by either going to http://update.harms-software.com and typing in your Client Q number and Password or from the Navigator, under the Help section there is a link that says Millennium Update Site. Once you log in to the update site, click the + sign in front of Updates on the left, then underneath click the + sign in front of Millennium 2005. Right underneath Millennium 2005, you will see Millennium again which you can click on and on the right side it will tell you what the program date is. So if your program date says December 29, 2004 and on the Update Site it says June 10, 2005, you can download this update and install it.

Q: Why would the price of a service come up as $0.00 in the register when checking out a client?

A: There are two reasons that can cause the price to come up as $0.00. First, go to Data'Services'Service Definitions. Click on the listing tab, select the service then click on the maintenance tab. On the pricing tab, make sure that the appropriate price levels are filled in and also make sure that the employee specific pricing is correct as well. Second, go to Data'Employees'Employee Information, click on the listing tab and select the employee then click on the maintenance tab. Make sure that the employee is assigned to the correct price level.

Q: What is intelli-booking?

A: Intelli-booking is a feature that will intelligently adjust the service time on future bookings for specific clients for the same amount of time that the previous appointment was booked for. For example, if a client comes in for a haircut and you manually adjust the time in the appointment editor to something else, the next time that client comes in for a haircut with that same employee, it will remember the changed time from their previous appointment.

Q: What is the best methodology of booking "lunches" when a client has a package containing a lunch?

A: The best methodology is to create a service and an employee called lunch so when scanning an opening for those packages it books the lunch as well.

Q: When should I use "block" times?

A: Block times should be primarily used to block out employees for lunches, meetings etc. However, blocks should Not be used to block employees off for vacation or sick days.

Q: Do I need to have an email account in order to use Millennium.MAIL?

A: Yes, you do need an email address in order to send emails through Millennium.Mail because all emails need to have a sender.
